Soundproofing Plus: Audimute Sound Absorption Materials vs. A Pillow

Audimute Sound Absorption Materials vs. A Pillow

Sound is complex - and we try to make it simple. But the truth is, sometimes it's difficult for people to understand exactly why some sound absorption materials work better than others.

At Audimute, we constantly receive questions regarding our products' performance, and we actually invite our customers to share their results with others - it's much better coming from you all than it is coming from us! We stand by our products' effectiveness and have the lab results and thousands of satisfied customers to prove it. We also offer a 100% satisfaction guarantee stating that (based on our recommendations) customers will be satisfied with their results or will get their money back.

That's why we were surprised when browsing through Youtube to stumble across this video, uploaded by someone who compared Audimute Absorption Sheets to a pillow. The speaker strongly hints that the pillow is more effective than our Sheets at absorbing the sound coming from the phone.

Unfortunately, sound isn't this simple. The number of layers of sound absorption materials used as well as the amount of area covered both play a large part in how much sound is going to be absorbed. Sure, placing a 4" thick pillow over a phone is going to reduce a lot more noise than one thin layer of our Absorption Sheets. However, cover your entire room with Absorption Sheets (even in a single layer) and you will immediately notice the results. Add one more layer of Absorption Sheets and you'll have optimal absorption for almost ANY application - including studios, vocal booths, drum rooms and more. These last two scenarios represent cases in which our product would be used as we recommend it - the first scenario is simply not practical.

Now imagine covering your whole room with pillows...sure, pillows would probably work just fine as sound absorption materials (although professional lab results would be the ultimate test). Heck, tons of everyday household items can be used to absorb sound! But if you want to treat your space effectively, efficiently and affordably, professional sound absorption materials should be used.

Here's why:

First, Audimute Sound Absorption Sheets are manufactured with a special blend of cotton and cellulose - a blend that was made and remade, tested and retested, until finally we found the optimally effective combo. When rated in a professional acoustical laboratory, our Absorption Sheets achieved an impressive .7 NRC rating - one the best in the business. This means our Sheets are proven to absorb up to 70% of sound.

Secondly, our product is priced as one of the most affordable solutions out there. For as low as $20/sheet, you can create a room that cuts back as much as 70% of the echoes and reverb. One 7 pack of absorption sheets costs $165 and covers 168 sq.ft. To cover this same area with pillows (which usually measure around 2'x2'), you would need approximately 42 pillows. With pillows priced around $10/each, you would need to budget nearly 3 times more to treat the same space with pillows (which were not even created to be sound absorption materials). And good luck hanging pillows on your wall! Absorption Sheets are convenient because they can easily be hung and removed using MegaClips.

All in all, there are many reasons why using professional sound absorption materials over household items like pillows is worth it - if there weren't, people would never come to us for solutions! But when it comes down to it, we really do appreciate the feedback we are getting in terms of others testing our products and sharing their experiences. We will continue to use this feedback to help improve our service to our customers and to maintain the high level of excellence that they deserve. So please, keep the videos and comments coming!
