Soundproofing Plus: The BASICs of Acoustical Soundproofing: Keeping It Simple

The BASICs of Acoustical Soundproofing: Keeping It Simple

Getting started in acoustical soundproofing can be a daunting task. So many products are available, and so much advice—right or wrong—can be found on the Internet.

Audimute has always focused on making acoustical soundproofing simple and understandable, so we’ll take this opportunity to toss one into the “right advice” column.

We’ve created an easy-to-remember acronym that covers the basics of good sound … and that, coincidentally, is the acronym BASIC.

The “B” stands for barrier, as in acoustical soundproofing barriers. Barriers are typically made of high-mass materials and are designed to keep sound, including low frequencies, in (or out) of a space. Barrier requirements are unique to each space and need, and complete soundproofing is not always required.

Absorption is our “A.” Sound absorption is used to balance room acoustics and prevent undesirable room effects. It’s a big help in getting clean recordings and having quality, lower-volume practice sessions.

Service, the “S,” is something that’s essential to any soundproofing project, and it’s the reason we made this list. Make sure that your soundproofing approach is well planned, effective, and right for the situation, and make sure that your soundproofing company will help you get your project right.

Isolation platforms, our “I,” are an important but often overlooked component in good sound. Getting speakers, amps, drums, and other resonant items up and isolated can make a major difference in sound.

Last, our “C”: Call a professional. You don’t need to be a soundproofing expert when you’ve got us. Audimute can get you on the right track and help you do exactly what you need; no more and no less.

We’ve made a video that details the BASICs of acoustical soundproofing. While you’re watching it, remember the “C”—call the Audimute pros at 866-505-MUTE (6883). We’ll help you go well beyond the basics.
